Forming out of FSU’s residence halls, Dorms is a hard-hitting indie outfit comprised of Elijah Ford, Josh DaCosta, Ethan Mercado, and Edgar Atencio. With sounds ranging from overdriven guitar screams to echo-drenched melodies, they offer high-energy performances that are sure to turn some heads. Ford, Mercado, and Atencio met in FSU’s Cawthon Hall during the summer of 2018. With the inclusion of DaCosta on bass, they began playing shows in November later that year. They have opened for bands such as: Flipturn, Palomino Blond, Greet Death, Dark Thoughts, and Blis. Dorms have established themselves in Tallahassee’s DIY circuit and have spread their sound to cities such as Orlando and Jacksonville.
Their first single “Moon Prayer,” written by Mercado and Ford, was released on Bandcamp on October 23rd of 2018 shortly before their first show. Although the band formed around Mercado’s dorm room rhythm guitar parts and Ford’s electronically typed drumming, it has since evolved into an experimental mesh of concepts. Each band member brings their own influences and ideas together in the songwriting process to create a meaningful piece of art.
In February of 2019, Dorms was signed by Cat Family Records. With Cat Family’s help, Dorms is set to release their debut EP later this year, recorded by Quinn Riley. The band’s schedule is jam-packed with shows spreading throughout the spring/summer of 2019.
